The developer of Xposed framework, rovo89, finally got around to releasing an official build of the framework for Android 7.0/7.1 Nougat. The release comes more than a year after Google had first released Nougat. The delay in the release was due to the number of underlying changes made to the OS and the developer working on the project only in his free time.
Nonetheless, now that an official build of Xposed for Nougat is already here, most advanced Android users are already itching to install it on their devices. Xposed framework in itself does little to enhance the functionality of a device but when coupled with modules developed by other developers, it can be used to customise almost any aspect of a device.
So without wasting any more time, let’s dive straight into the steps on how to install Xposed framework on an Android device running Nougat.
Pre-requisites
- Make sure your Android device is rooted with a custom recovery like TWRP installed
- Your Android device must be running Android 7.0 or Android 7.1
- Huawei/Honor devices might exhibit some compatibility issues
- Make a backup of all your data before proceeding with the steps. There is a high probability that your Android device will enter into a boot loop or system apps will start crashing after installing the framework
- Remember that many Xposed modules will also have to be updated to work properly with Nougat
- Magisk for Android might also show some compatibility issues
How to Install Xposed on Android 7.0 – 7.1 Nougat
Step 1: Download Xposed framework for Android Nougat and the accompanying APK from below, and then transfer both files to the internal storage of your Android device.

Step 2: Reboot your Android device into TWRP or any other custom recovery that you have installed on your device. This requires you one to switch off their device and press the volume and power button in a specific way. If you don’t know the key combination to boot your Android device into recovery, you can use the Quick Boot application from the Play Store.
Step 3: With your device in TWRP recovery, tap Install and select the Xposed framework installation zip file which you transferred to your device in the first step. Once the zip file is installed, reboot your Android device.
The first boot can take some time and there’s a possibility that your Android device can enter into a boot loop. In such a case, boot your device into recovery mode again and flash the zip file to uninstall the framework.
Step 4: If your device has booted into Android OS successfully, use a file manager of your choice and navigate to the folder where you had transferred the Xposed framework installer APK. Proceed to install the app like you would install any app. If you get a prompt saying you don’t have installation from unauthorised sources enabled, tap the ‘Settings’ button and then toggle the ‘Unknown Sources’ switch to on from the Security menu.
You can verify that you have Xposed framework installed on your device by opening the Xposed app from your app drawer and heading over to the Framework section of the app.
Do remember that since this is the first release of Xposed framework for Nougat, you might run into some compatibility issues with third-party modules. However, these issues should be sorted by their respective developers with regular updates over the next few days/weeks.
