Nvidia’s SHIELD tablets are great budget gaming tablets, which pack in plenty of horsepower. While they have not exactly sold in millions, they have sold enough for the company to continue releasing a new model every year. This is despite the company having to issue a recall of the tablet in early 2015 due to faulty battery that posed a potential fire hazard.

Now, if a new FCC filling is anything to go by, the GPU maker is preparing a new Shield tablet — likely a successor to the Shield Tablet K1.

The FCC filling does not reveal much about the upcoming tablet from the company, but it does reveal its dimensions: 120mm wide x 215mm tall. This is just a wee bit smaller to the existing Shield Tablet K1, which likely indicates that this new tablet from Nvidia will have a more compact body.

The upcoming tablet will likely be powered by Nvidia’s Tegra X1 chip that comprises of a 256-core Maxwell GPU and an 8-core 64-bit CPU. It is also capable of playing back 4K videos shot in 60fps. The chip is already found inside Nvidia’s Shield Android TV.

The Android tablet scene has seen almost little to no development over the last year or so. While Samsung does churn out new Android tablets every once in a while, they are still a step behind Apple’s iPad in many key aspects. Here’s hoping Nvidia manages to change that with the launch of the Shield Tablet K1 later this year.
