At a massive event in China today, LeEco unveiled its three new handsets: the Le 2, Le 2 Pro and Le Max 2. During its event, the company took generous potshots at Apple’s iPhone 6s and Xiaomi’s Mi 5, and made sure to highlight at every step how its latest handsets are better than the offerings from the other two companies.
Of all the three phones unveiled, the Le Max 2 is the company’s flagship handset featuring a 5.7-inch Quad HD display. LeEco highlighted that despite coming with a bigger screen than the iPhone 6s Plus, the Max 2 was 1.4mm shorter than it. The phone features a metal unibody, with capacitive navigation keys at its front and the fingerprint scanner located at its rear.
Under the hood, the Max 2 is powered by a 2.15GHz Snapdragon 820 CPU, Adreno 530 GPU, a staggering 6GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, and Cat. 12 LTE support. All of this beastly hardware is powered by a 3100mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support. The phone also makes features a 21MP Sony shooter at its rear with OIS, while the front houses a 8MP selfie camera.
Next, you have the Le 2 Pro, a premium mid-range ‘superphone.’ Featuring a 5.5-inch Full HD display, the handset is powered by MediaTek’s deca-core Helio X25 chip. It also features 4GB RAM, 32/64GB of internal storage, a 21MP Sony IMX230 shooter at its rear, and an 8MP front camera.
The Le 2 is identical to the Le 2 Pro, but comes with slightly less powerful internals. While the handset comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD display, it is powered by a slightly slower deca-core Helio X20 CPU from MediaTek. Other specs of the handset include 3GB RAM, a 16MP rear camera, and an 8MP front camera.
Both phones feature an anodised aluminium body with a fingerprint scanner located at their rear. They are powered by a 3,000mAh battery with USB Type-C port, and also feature LeEco’s own fast charging technology.
Beating Apple to the punch, LeEco has gone ahead and removed the 3.5mm audio jack from all its three phones announced today. Instead, the company boasts that the phones come with the “world’s first Type-C audio connector.” To make sure its customers don’t face any compatibility issues, the company will also be including a USB Type-C to 3.5mm audio converter. While LeEco has managed to beat Apple in releasing smartphones without a 3.5mm audio jack, I am not sure how exactly it is benefiting its customers here.
The LeEco Le Max 2 will be available in China for CNY 2,100 for and CNY 2,500 for the 3GB/32GB and 6GB/64GB variants, respectively. The Le 2 Pro will be available in China for CNY 1,500, while the Le 2 will be available for CNY 1,100.
