It is no secret that Qualcomm’s flagship chipset for 2015 — the Snapdragon 810 — suffers from major overheating issues. The issue is so bad that all major Android flagships using the chipset have been affected by it.

Despite Qualcomm and other OEMs denying reports about the Snapdragon 810 overheating, major flagship handsets like the LG G Flex 2 and HTC One M9 overheat even under medium load and need to underclock themselves to keep the heat under control. This leads to a major drop in performance of these handsets, which allows older devices like the Galaxy Note 4 and Nexus 6 to easily beat them in benchmarks.

The issue is so bad that NTT DoCoMo — a major carrier in Japan — has apparently placed a warning poster in one of its retail stores containing warnings, tips and suggestions to prevent Snapdragon 810 devices from overheating. The poster contains tips specifically for three Snapdragon 810 devices being sold in the country by the carrier: the Xperia Z4, Sharp Aquos Zeta and the Fujitsu Arrows NX. It recommends owners of these handsets to shut down their phone while charging it; to regularly backup their data on the handset, and to switch to a tablet or laptop when they have access to it.

At this point, there is really not much that Qualcomm or any other OEM can do to solve the overheating issues of the chipset. Despite a number of revisions, the Snapdragon 810 chipset continues to overheat in all the smartphones it has been used inside.
