Talk of Android 4.4.3, the next minor update to KitKat, has been making the rounds in the rumor mill for a few weeks now. Today, a new rumor has surfaced suggesting that Google has started testing 4.4.3 internally among its employees, with 1 percent of Google’s workforce currently having access to it on the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 2012, Nexus 7 2013 and Nexus 10.
Android 4.4.3 is codenamed KitKat MR2, and according to Android Police, should be rolling out to Nexus devices in the coming weeks (though the actual release date will depend on how well the testing goes), with Google Play edition devices to get it soon after. Google is reportedly touting the update as containing critical and security issues – not surprising, considering a changelog for 4.4.3 that leaked recently was full of bug fixes and made no mention of new features.
Some of the important bugs Android 4.4.3 is supposed to fix include a battery drain issue caused by background initialization of the camera, problems with camera autofocus, and frequent data connection dropouts experienced by users. Nothing too exciting, though as long as it manages to improve on what is already the best version of Android yet, you won’t hear us complaining.
