Video: Nokia compares their upcoming 2013 flagship to the best smartphones from 2012

Nokia is going to come out with a new phone next week. Unfortunately, it’s been leaked to high heaven, and everyone pretty much knows it’s going to be called the Lumia 928. Verizon is expected to offer it, with the highlight feature being insane low light performance. It’ll have optical image stabilization and likely a Xenon flash.

In order to demonstrate how awesome this new Lumia will be, the company recorded a couple of people riding a roller coaster in New York with three phones. This Lumia 928, the Samsung Galaxy S III, and the iPhone 5. Can you guess which phone won?

There are two things I’d like to point out about this “comparison”. One, why didn’t Nokia compare their phone with an HTC One or a Samsung Galaxy S4, or why didn’t they wait until the iPhone 5S to make a fairer comparison? And two, people don’t buy a phone based on how good the camera is. I’m sorry, but you can’t just look at photos taken with an iOS device, an Android device, and a Windows Phone to pick which handset you’ll end up using for the next two years.

There are so many more aspects to picking a phone that I don’t even know where to begin my list. The app ecosystem should take priority, then there’s hardware accessories, support for corporate environments, which Windows Phone ironically lacks, and so on and so forth.

I’m all for company’s saying they have the best this or that on the market, but it’s a little disingenuous to compare a brand spanking new phone to a year old Android device and an eight month iPhone. What do you think?
