Samsung today announced the Gear IconX and Gear Fit 2. The former are a pair of wireless earbuds from the company that are not even connected to each other using wires. Instead, just like how they communicate to the phone over Bluetooth, the two earpieces also communicate with each other over Bluetooth.
The earbuds come with 4GB of internal storage so you can store your music on them and go out for a run without having to carry your smartphone. Even more impressive is the fact that the IconX can also be used for monitoring your heart rate and movement. The surface of the earbuds acts as a touchpad so using various gestures (double tap, swipe forward/back), you can play/pause music or change the track.
The case for the IconX is also capable of charging them twice. The IconX itself lasts for an hour and half on a single charge when streaming music which is pretty awful. The IconX earbuds will be available in a trio of colors — blue, black, and white — for $199.99.
As for the Gear Fit 2, it now features an updated design with a larger 1.5-inch curved AMOLED display. The wearable is now also capable of automatically recognising certain activities and features a built-in GPS. The bigger display makes the Gear Fit 2 more suitable for viewing your steps walked, calories burnt, and for checking your smartphone notifications.
Like the IconX, the Gear Fit 2 comes with 4GB of internal storage on which you can store your music. Samsung has also partnered with Spotify to offer a dedicated app for its latest fitness band. The wearable is compatible with all Android devices running KitKat or higher and iOS devices. It will retail for $179.99. The wearable continues to run on Tizen though, so third-party app support is going to be limited for it.
