To better cater to the Chinese smartphone market, Samsung today unveiled the Galaxy J3 Pro (2016) handset in the country. As its naming scheme indicates, the J3 Pro is a beefed up version of the 2016 Galaxy J3 that was launched recently by the Korean company.
The Pro variant of the Galaxy J3 features a 5-inch 720p AMOLED display at its front. Inside the handset is Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon 410 chipset clocked at 1.2GHz, 2GB RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and a microSD card slot. The rear of the phone houses an 8MP f/2.0 shooter, with the front housing a 5MP shooter.
Other specs of the handset include dual-SIM and LTE connectivity, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and a 2650mAh battery. Disappointingly, the handset runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, with Samsung’s usual flavour of Touchwiz on top of it.
The handset will be available in gold and grey colours, and will retail for 990 yuan. It will also be available through China Telecom later this month.
Like the Galaxy A9 Pro and special variants of the 2016 version of Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7, the Galaxy J3 Pro is also going to remain exclusive to China. The Korean company has been launching one new mid-range almost every month in the country to keep consumer interest alive in its handsets. However, compared to offerings from local Chinese players like Xiaomi, Oppo, and Lenovo, Samsung’s mid-range handsets leave a lot to be desired.
