Samsung today unveiled the 2018 editions of the Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A8+. The smartphones are the first from the Korean company to feature a Dual Front camera along with a bezel-less Infinity Display at the front.

As their name indicates, the Galaxy A8 and A8+ primarily differ from each other in terms of their display size. While the Galaxy A8 (2018) comes with a 5.6-inch FHD+ (1080 x 2220) Super AMOLED 18.5:9 display, the Galaxy A8+ features a 6-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel.

Both handsets feature a dual camera setup at the front which comprises of a 16MP and 8MP with f/1.9 aperture. The dual-camera setup allows the Galaxy A8 to take different kinds of selfies. One of the sensors features a wide-angle lens with the secondary sensor allowing for Live Focus a.k.a Portrait mode for your selfies. Like the Galaxy Note 8, the background blur can also be adjusted on the Galaxy A8 before or after taking a picture. The rear of the handsets features a 16MP f/1.7 shooter with PDAF. Other notable camera features include digital image stabilisation and hyperlapse mode in the stock camera app.

Featuring a design language that is similar to Samsung’s flagship handsets, the Galaxy A8 and A8+ are also IP68 water and dust resistant. Other notable specs of the handsets include USB-C connectivity, Samsung Pay, 3.5mm headphone jack, an octa-core 2.2GHz processor, LTE Cat. 11, microSD card slot, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5.0 and the usual bunch of sensors. The Galaxy A8 will come with 4GB RAM, 32/64GB storage and a 3000mAh battery, while the Galaxy A8+ will feature 4/6GB RAM, 32/64GB storage and a 3500mAh battery. Both phones also have fast charging support and are the first in Samsung’s Galaxy A lineup to support Gear VR.

In terms of software, the Galaxy A8 and A8+ are running Android 7.1 Nougat with Samsung’s Experience UI on top of it. The Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A8+ will be available from early January 2018. The handsets will be available in four colors: black, orchid grey, gold and blue.
