One of Android’s strength is the ability to use apps to automate everyday tasks and activities. As a Tasker user, I have setup profiles to automatically silence my phone during a meeting and read out text messages aloud when I am driving. However, Tasker is not everyone’s cup of tea and has a rather steep learning curve.
In comes Agent from Egomotion corp that automates certain day-to-day tasks on your Android device without requiring the user to learn rocket science. Agent basically consists of five ‘Agents’ for automating tasks in five different scenarios — Battery, Sleep, Parking, Meeting, and Drive.
Below is a quick description of what each Agent does -:
- Battery – The Battery agent allows users to disable certain radios (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and others) and Auto-sync when the battery level goes below a certain threshold to save battery.
- Sleep – The Sleep agent acts like the Do Not Disturb mode in iOS 7. It automatically mutes all the incoming notifications and ringers during the specified time. Users can also set the agent to start only when the handset has been lying idle for at least 20 minutes or when it is plugged in.
- Parking – This agent automatically remembers where and when you parked your car. It works by recording the time and location when your handset gets disconnected from the Bluetooth speaker of your car or via the new Activity Detection feature in Google Play Services.
- Meeting – The Meeting agent automatically silences your phone whenever you are in a meeting. It has a lot of options to make sure that you don’t miss that important call or message as well.
- Drive – The Drive agent works in a similar manner to the Parking Agent. It detects when you are driving either by using the Activity Detection API in Google Play Services or when connected to a specified Bluetooth device. It then automatically reads out your incoming notifications, auto-responds to them and mutes your phone as well.
As if the above features were not enticing enough, Agent can be downloaded for free from the Play Store and is free of any IAPs (In-App Purchases) making it a must-have app.
