Paying for apps has slowly evolved into “paying for things inside apps,” as in-app purchases took over. Amazon is here to hopefully make it a little easier on your wallet.

The company has just launched Amazon Underground, which it states has “actually free” apps, games and more available within it. What that means is that Amazon is giving away usually paid games and apps for free, but it is also making free apps give away in-app items, too. So, no more paying for a bit extra when you’ve downloaded a free app, just to unlock something. The company says that the list of apps and games will continue to grow, as Amazon sees this as a long-term initiative. Right now, it says that there are upwards of $10,000 worth of apps, games and in-app items available from Underground right now.

That includes titles like Goat Simulator, Cut the Rope 2, Jetpack Joyride, and OfficeSuite Professional 8. With many more already available, and more still to come. Unfortunately, Amazon won’t shed any light on what new apps or games might be coming down the pipe.

For Android users to get access to Underground, you’ll need to head into Settings and turn on downloads from unknown sources. Then, head to Amazon.com/Underground and download the app from there. It will replace the stock Amazon app if you have it installed on your phone already, but you’ll still be able to surf Amazon’s proper storefront from the Underground app.
