Dark Sky, the popular weather app for iOS, is finally making its way to the Google Play Store. The app is known for its “scary precise” weather information and timely notifications, which for some reason plethora of other weather apps have been unable to match so far.
Sadly, instead of creating an app tailored for Android, the team behind Dark Sky have simply ported the iOS version of the app to Google’s mobile operating system. The app does not suffer from any performance issues, and it even supports Marshmallow’s permissions manager. But compared to other weather apps on the Google Play Store, Dark Sky looks visually unappealing and bland…at least to me.
Yes, Dark Sky might be able to offer better and more accurate weather information than other weather apps, but it would have been great if it made things look pretty at the same time.
The app also features three different types of widget: Day Summary, Next Hour forecast, and a weekly overview. These widgets are a part of the paid version of the app, though you do get a free two week trial before you have to shell out $3.99 for these features. The free version of Dark Sky is also limited to displaying 24-hour and weekly forecasts. For any additional information, you will have to purchase the paid version of the app.
