HTC has revealed on Twitter that the One mini 2 — the smaller sibling of the One M8 released last year — will not be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop.

This move is bound to get HTC a lot of flak from consumers especially since the One mini 2 is hardly a year old handset, and Android 5.0 was released by Google within a few months of the handset going on sale.

The HTC One mini 2 comes with a Snapdragon 400 processor, an Adreno 305 GPU and 1GB RAM, which is more than enough to run Android 5.0 Lollipop smoothly. The only fathomable reason here is that the handset does not have enough resources to smoothly run Lollipop as well as HTC’s Sense UI skin.

Considering that the One mini 2 is hardly a year old at this point, this news is definitely going to anger a lot of existing customers. HTC has had a pretty remarkable track record of updating its flagship devices to the latest version of Android with the release of One M7, but it seems to be undoing all its good work by not updating the One mini 2 to Lollipop.

Are you disappointed that HTC will not be updating the One mini 2 to Lollipop?
