Xposed framework for Android 7.0/7.1 Nougat took a long time to arrive but the first beta of the framework for Android 8.0 – 8.1 Oreo was released earlier this week. The release comes within a few months of Oreo’s official release.

Since this is only the first beta of Xposed framework for Android Oreo, it is bound to have some bugs and issues. However, no major deal breaking bug has been reported so far so you can still go ahead and install the framework on your device if you are missing your favorite Xposed modules.

Pre-requisites

• Make sure your Android device is rooted and a custom recovery like TWRP is installed
• Your Android device must be running Android 8.0 or Android 8.1
• Samsung and Huawei/Honor devices are not supported by this release of Xposed framework for Android 8.0 Oreo
• Create a backup of all your data before proceeding with the steps. There is a high probability that your Android device will enter into boot loop or system apps will start crashing after installing the framework
• Since Xposed framework for Android Oreo has just been released, a majority of Xposed modules need to be updated to be compatible with Oreo

Install Xposed Framework on Android 8.0 – 8.1 Oreo

Step 1: Download Xposed framework for Android Oreo and the accompanying APK from below. Then, transfer the files to the internal storage of your Android device.

Step 2: Reboot your Android device into TWRP or any other custom recovery installed on your device. To boot into recovery mode, you will have to switch off your device and press the volume and power buttons in a specific way. If you don’t know the key combination to boot your Android device into recovery, you can use the Quick Boot application from the Play Store.

Step 3: With your device in TWRP recovery, tap Install and select the Xposed framework installation zip file which you transferred in the first step. With the zip file is installed, its time to reboot your Android device.

The first boot can take some time and there’s a possibility that your Android device can enter into a boot loop. In such a case, boot your device into recovery mode again and flash the zip file to uninstall the framework.

Step 4: If your device has booted into Android OS successfully, use a file manager of your choice and navigate to the folder where you had transferred the Xposed framework installer APK. Proceed to install the app like you would install any app. If you get a prompt saying you don’t have installation from unauthorized sources enabled, tap the ‘Settings’ button and then toggle the ‘Unknown Sources’ switch to on from the Security menu.

I will recommend you to not download and install Xposed modules from the Download section of the Xposed app. This is because the majority of them have still not been updated for Android Oreo. Instead, head over to XDA forums and go through the relevant Xposed module thread that you want to use to ensure that it has been updated for Oreo before installing it.
