Nexbit today announced the rollout of a major software update for the Robin that will bump the Android OS on the handset to Marshmallow. Beside Marshmallow, the update brings improvements to key areas of the handset like camera, performance and battery life.

The team behind Nextbit say that they have tuned the processor to deliver better performance and battery life. Similarly, they have taken the help of Arkamys to tune the sound of the handset at the driver level. This will lead to the Robin delivering significantly better audio both through its speakers and audio jack.

Most importantly perhaps, the Nextbit team has tuned the camera performance and overhauled their camera app completely. The new camera app is able to take better and faster pictures. The Robin was criticized for its poor camera performance and experience, so here is hoping that this update improve that aspect of the phone. Lastly, the update also bumps the phone to the April security patch and adds new emoji.

To make sure that you enjoy the improved audio performance of the Robin post the update, Nextbit has collaborated with AIAIAI to create a custom set of specced out TMA-2 headphones specifically for the handset. These headphones use a powerful, high-sensitivity neodymium speaker to deliver “vibrant and detailed sound, with dynamic bass and crisp treble.” The headphones go on sale today on Nextbit.com for $225. Additionally, both companies have also collaborated on a ringtone series for which they have also worked with other artists and DJs. Lastly, Nextbit now sells the Robin directly through Amazon.com in the United States that makes it significantly easier to get your hands on one.
