Starting today, Glass is available for practically anybody in the U.S., as long as they’re 18+ and have $1500 to spend. This comes after Google recently made the device available to non-developers for a limited period. Clearly, not every enthusiast was able to get their hands on the device back then, so Google has decided to officially make Glass available for everyone in the U.S.

The Explorer version of the Google Glass wearable was initially sold only to developers who intended to write apps for the device. Google soon began expanding the program to commoners by introducing an invite system where Glass users could send an invite to their friends to purchase it too. But it seems like Google understands the need to have feedback from the common public — feedback that can play a crucial role when the mass produced version of the device hits the markets.

Google says that they will continue to sell the device as long as they have it in hand, leaving room for a possible out of stock situation. So it is advised to get the device as soon as possible if you’re interested. We don’t see the public launch happening anytime soon, but it’s good to see that Google is keen on getting consumer feedback before it gears up for the commercial release of the wearable.

Here’s Google’s official statement on the availability – “Last week we told you we’d be trying out new ways to find Explorers. Well, we weren’t kidding. We learned a lot when we opened our site a few weeks ago, so we’ve decided to move to a more open beta. We’re still in the Explorer Program while we continue to improve our hardware and software, but starting today anyone in the US can buy the Glass Explorer Edition, as long as we have it on hand:google.com/glass
We’re ready to keep meeting new Explorers, and we can’t wait to hear all your experiences and feedback to continue to make Glass even better, ahead of our wider consumer release.”
