Companies often like to do this thing called “co-branding”. You’ve seen Batman Edition Nokia phones, NASCAR sponsored sugar water from Pepsi, and let’s not even begin to talk about the horrendously overpriced footwear from Nike that’s sponsored by basketball players. Today’s latest public relations coup d’état is the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 Hello Kitty Edition. That sure is a mouthful, isn’t it? It’s basically Samsung’s cheapest tablet to launch this year, but with some special stickers on the front and back of the device, as well as a custom wallpaper.
I’ll forgive you for rolling your eyes, but just imagine how excited parents will be when they’re walking through the store and their kids see this tablet. The tablet, which as far as I can tell will launch in Germany and then hopefully trickle into other countries, will set you back 230 Euros or $310. Not a lot if you think about it, but certainly more expensive than the typical you’d buy a child, like something from Acer or Lenovo that’s 150 Euros or less.
Should you even be buying your kid a tablet? That’s a parenting question I’m not even going to begin to try and answer since I haven’t fathered any children yet, but if I did, I’d probably get them a tablet before I’d get them a computer. Just easier maintenance, and cheaper too.
