Barnes & Noble have decided to team up with Samsung to release a new Nook series tablet — the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook. As the name suggests, the tablet is nothing more than a re-branded version of Samsung’s 7-inch Galaxy Tab 4 tablet running a customized version of Bares & Noble’s Nook software. Barnes & Noble has been traditionally known for making excellent eReaders, though it has not translated into successful sales for the company. The 7-inch Galaxy Tab 4.0 sports a 800 x 1280 resolution and is powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz processor. Other modest specs include 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, 3.15MP camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and the usual bunch of sensors.
“We are very excited and proud to partner with Samsung, a world-class technology and tablet leader, to create customized co-branded devices featuring our valuable NOOK reading experience and digital content catalog for Barnes & Noble customers nationwide,” said Michael P. Huseby, Chief Executive Officer of Barnes & Noble, Inc. “
On the software side, Tab 4 Nook owners will have “easy access to Barnes & Noble’s expansive digital collection of more than three million books, leading magazines, and newspapers.” The co-branded tablet will be available in the U.S from early August and will be displayed alongside Nook’s other eReaders and sold at more than 700 Barnes & Noble’s bookstores.
