According to the Korean newspaper Chosun, who quotes an unnamed Samsung executive, sales of the Galaxy S4 hit four million as of the end of April. The executive goes on to say that as of last Friday, May 10th, sales hit six million, and that the company might hit 10 million by the end of this month. To put those figures into some perspective, Unwired View points out that it took about two months for the GS3 to hit 10 million units.
On May 3rd I sent out this tweet, which given this new information, sounds prophetic:
It took 54 days for the GS III to hit 10 million units sold. Assuming double the speed for the GS4, an announcement is due on May 24th.

When will Samsung make an official announcement? If I had to take a guess, I’d say they’ll do it when they announce the GS4 variants that have been leaking during the past few weeks. For those who don’t know, there’s going to be a rugged version of the GS4 called the “GS4 Active”, a smaller version of the GS4 called the “GS4 Mini”, and a GS4 Mini with a 16 megapixel camera and 10x optical zoom called the “GS4 Zoom”.
If these announcements doesn’t happen by the end of May, then they’ll surely happen in June.
