Between now and the end of the year, Samsung’s going to update their three most important phones to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean: the Galaxy S4, the Galaxy S III, and the Galaxy Note II. They’ll probably receive updates in the order they were released, from newest phone to oldest phone. Over at SamMobile, they’ve got their hands on a non-final official ROM for the Galaxy S4 that has Android 4.3, and they’re reporting just a handful of changes.
First, Samsung Wallet is installed by default. Think of it as Google Wallet, just a lot less useful, which is saying quite a bit since Google Wallet is itself rather useless. Second, they say that color accuracy has improved. What’s happening here is that Samsung likely tweaked the default display settings, which have been customizable from day one. And third, this is an odd one, they say the fonts are sharper. They were never really blurry on the device’s 440 pixel per inch screen to begin with, right?
What else, if anything, does Android 4.3 add to the GS4? Surprisingly, not that much. You have to remember, 4.3 was never really a big update. It was released alongside the new Nexus 7 because it came with the right DRM under the hood to enable Netflix support.
I’m sure we’ll hear more about this over the coming weeks and months.
