The Sony Xperia Z2 might be a small upgrade — hardware wise — over the Xperia Z1 but it packs in a lot of new software goodies. The latter should get most, if not all, the features with the KitKat update but that is still a month or two away at best.
Thanks to the members of the XDA forums though, rooted Xperia Z1 owners can enjoy nearly all the new software goodies of the Z2 on their handset right away. This includes the new Camera app with all its goodies including the Smart Social Camera add on, Super Video Camera, AR Effect, Background Defocus and more. Other ported apps include the Home launcher, Conversations app, Calendar, System Sounds and the whole suite of media apps including Walkman, Movies and Album.
The installation process is pretty simple and requires you to flash the ZIP files of the app in Recovery. Most of the apps will also work on other Xperia devices running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean including the Xperia T, V, SP, Z, ZL and ZR. (www.ameriseed.net)
