Live in Japan? Well, you now have access to two special edition handsets released specifically for your market — the pink Galaxy S5 and the Sony Xperia A2. Japan is among the last markets where Samsung will be launching the Galaxy S5 later this week and looking at how obsessed the country is with Hello Kitty and pink color, the company decided to release not one, but two special pink variants of their flagship phone.

Now, I don’t live in Japan so I am not sure why the country is so fascinated with pink. Someone from Samsung, however, decided to do a bit of research, which led the company to release two different pink colored variants of the S5 — Soft Metallic Rose and Champagne Pink (a.k.a Golden pink). While the former will be offered by NTT DoCoMo, the latter will only be available on KDDI from May 15th.

Sony also released a slightly updated version of the Z1 Compact in Japan for NTT DoCoMo customers, dubbed the Xperia A2. Internally, the handset packs the same components as its international sibling, which include a Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 4.3-inch 720p display and a 20.7MP Exmor R camera.

The only change is to the exterior of the handset, where Sony has replaced the glass back with matte plastic. It will also be offering the handset in orange and lavender colors once it goes on sale starting mid-June.

The company also released its latest flagship — the Xperia Z2 — for NTT DoCoMo users, which should be available in stores by May 21.
