Samsung, today, unveiled the successor to the Galaxy S4 Zoom — dubbed the Galaxy K Zoom. The handset has already leaked numerous times in the past few weeks so its announcement should not really come as a surprise.
The K Zoom is a hybrid between a smartphone and a point ‘n’ shoot camera. It sports a design that is similar to the Galaxy S5 inside a body that is twice (20.2mm) as thick as the former.
Internally, it sports a hexa-core Exynos chip, 2GB of RAM, a 4.8-inch 720p Super AMOLED display, 2GB RAM, 8GB internal memory, a microSD card slot, LTE, 2430mAh removable battery and all the other usual goodies. It also runs on the latest version of TouchWiz as seen on the Galaxy S5, and includes all its bells and whistles including the Ultra Power Saving Mode, re-designed UI, a needlessly long Settings menu, S-Health and more. The only difference is the Camera app that Samsung has enhanced to provide more manual controls and scene modes.
The highlight of the Galaxy K Zoom is the 20.7MP 1/2.3-inch sensor located at its back, which is accompanied with a 24-240mm lens and a Xenon flash. The camera smartphone offers 10x optical zoom and can also record Full HD videos in 60FPS and slow-motion mode.
Keeping the selfie trend and the huge camera at the back of Galaxy K Zoom in mind, Samsung has included a Selfie alarm mode in the camera app. Switch to the Selfie mode, tap the area where you would like your face to be in the frame and then turn the phone around. Once your face is in the desired area, the Galaxy K Zoom will beep and take 3 pictures in rapid succession so that you can select your favourite one later.
Samsung has not announced the price or availability dates of the Galaxy K Zoom but the company does not plan on bringing its smartphone-camera hybrid to the United States anytime soon.
