In what appears to be a major marketing investment, Sony has just struck a deal with FIFA to make its latest smartphone, the Xperia Z2 the official smartphone of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The World Cup is set to kick off tomorrow in São Paulo, so this is just the marketing boost Sony could have asked for ahead of the biggest sporting spectacle in the world.
This obviously means some new contests and offers for the fans as well. One of them is the Sony Football Challenge where users have to correctly guess the final scoreline of all 64 games played during the event. Winners will get an Xperia Z2, an Xperia Z2 Tablet, a PlayStation 4 and the grand prize of a VIP trip to Morocco sponsored by the company.
So with the football fever soaring high among fans, there’s a chance to make more of it with some luck and football knowledge. It’s not uncommon for major companies to tie-up with sporting events as the exposure is pretty high, and with this new association, Sony can hope to attract the global audience on a wider scale. HTC was announced the sponsor of the UEFA Champion’s League not too long ago, so the association of football with mobile companies is not new.
