Earlier today, HTC announced its newest flagship handset: the HTC 10. Immediately you will notice considerable differences between the HTC 10 and its predecessor, the One M9. The build quality is much better and the design feels more natural to hold. It retains the slight rounding of the back, making this a comfortable phone to grasp.

Almost every key component of the One M9 has been updated in a major way by HTC to improve its performance or efficiency. If you are wondering what these exact changes are, and what really makes the HTC 10 better, read below.

Design

• The HTC 10 features a 5.2 inch QHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) which is a remarkable improvement over last years 5.0 inch HD panel
  • The screen is also 30% brighter, more vibrant in colour and up to 50% more responsive over the One M9

• HTC 10 has an IP53 certification, making it splash-resistant and dust proof just like its predecessor

• The HTC 10 is marginally thinner than its predecessor (9.0mm vs 9.61mm)
  • How ever it is longer and broader (145.9mm x 71.9mm vs 144.6mm x 69.7mm)
  • This leads it to being 4g heavier at 161g.

• The HTC 10 features capacitive keys while the One M9 had on screen navigation

Performance

• The HTC 10 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset vs the Snapdragon 810 on the One M9
  • This 2.2GHz quad-core chip has been favored by most of the flagship handsets this year

• 4GB RAM (1GB more than the One M9)

• LTE Cat. 9 connectivity (HTC One M9 featured LTE Cat. 6 connectivity)

Camera

• 12MP rear shooter — This is actually 8MP lower than the 20MP shooter found on the HTC One M9
  • However, the 12MP sensor features larger 1.55μm pixels that should help it perform better in low-light
  • It is also paired with a wider f/1.8 (vs. f/2.2) aperture
  • The camera also features Optical Image Stabilisation

• The front camera changes from a 4MP ‘UltraPixel’ to a 5MP
  • But it is the world’s first to include OIS
  • It also has a wider f/1.8 aperture

Battery

• 3000mAh battery – up from the mere 2840mAh battery found inside the M9
  • According to HTC, this allows the 10 to deliver 30% longer battery life
  • Fast charging with up to 50% charge in as little as 30 min
  • Quick Charge 3.0 charger that comes in the box

Features

• The HTC 10 also features the world’s first stereo with 24-bit-Hi-Res Audio recording and playback
  • It comes pre-bundled with a Hi-Res Audio certified headphones

All the above differences go to show that HTC has taken the best from the One M9 and improved it further with the 10. It shows that despite its struggles, HTC is listening to consumer feedback and improving on the disappointments of the One M9.
