Pokémon Go Update Introduces Avatar Customisation, Removes Footprint, and More

Niantic has started rolling outing the version 0.31.0 of Pokémon Go that fixes a bunch of bugs with the game. The first major update to the game since its release improves the memory issues plaguing the game and fixes many other major annoyances that Pokémon trainers from all over the world have been complaining about.

Niantic has also fixed the footprints feature of the game that is used to find nearby Pokémons. It had stopped working a couple of weeks ago, and without it, it was impossible to figure out if a Pokémon near you was 10ms away or 100m. There is a catch though; the ‘fix’ from Niantic is taking the feature completely out from Nearby. This will make catching Pokémons that are near you significantly tougher.

The official change-log of the update is as follows:

  • Avatars can now be re-customized from the Trainer profile screen
  • Adjusted battle move damage values for some Pokémon
  • Refined certain Gym animations
  • Improved memory issues
  • Removed footprints of nearby Pokémon
  • Modified battle damage calculation
  • Various bug fixes during wild Pokémon encounter
  • Updated Pokémon details screen
  • Updated achievement medal images
  • Fixed issues with displaying certain map features
  • Minor text fixes

The ability to customise one’s avatar in the game is also a welcome addition. It does, however, still does not bring the ability to trade Pokémons, which many Pokémon trainers have been eagerly waiting for.

The update is already live on the Google Play Store, but as always, it is rolling out in stages.
