Motorola started rolling out the Android 5.1 OTA update for the Pure Edition 2014 Moto X late last month. However, due to some bugs in the firmware, the company has now halted the rollout of the update.

Motorola initially does a “soak test” of any OTA update, where it rolls out the update to selected users first, to make sure that there are no major issues with the firmware. It is only a few days after the soak test that the company deploys the OTA for everyone.

The bug in the Android 5.1 firmware for the 2014 PE Moto X was caught during the soak test period, so majority of the owners of the handset were yet to receive the update.

According to David Schuster, Senior Director of Software Product Management at Motorola, a fix for bug has also been identified by the company and is currently being tested by it internally. The company hopes to submit the updated firmware to carrier labs for testing next week “for a quick approval.”

This means that 2014 PE Moto X owners should not expect the Android 5.1 update to land on their handset sometime before late next week, at the very minimum.

On the other hand, Motorola has finally started a wider rollout of the Android 5.1 update for the 2013 Moto X. Many owners of the handset from India, Brazil. Germany and France. The handset never received the Android 5.0 Lollipop update, and is directly being updated from KitKat to the latest version of Lollipop.
